Moved by Paul's last visit in Norfolk, Carl decides to go on a trip to Genoa City. He later phones Ruth and he tells her that he visited Genoa City,
but he hasn't been able to remember anything from his past yet. All of a sudden, he hears bells ringing, and he decides to attend Christmas mass. He sits down at the back of the church.
He sees Paul and Christine joining an older couple, and he guesses that the lady is his wife Mary.
The mass is lovely. There are lots of Christmas carols. While looking at Paul and Mary, Carl briefly sees himself, Mary and their two young children Paul and Patty attending Chrismas mass.
Upset about this flashback, he gets out of the church in a rush.
A few days later, Carl has another flashback of himself reading little Paul his favorite story.
