Paul and Bobby

Paul is comforting Heather

Heather is looking at the ring that Adam gave her back. Someone knocks on the door. "Who is it?" she asks. "It's your father". Heather puts the ring on the table, and she runs into Paul's arms.

Paul and Heather are sitting on the couch. He is holding her hand. He tells her he wishes he had been wrong about Adam. He knows how much she loved him and he hates seing her hurt like that. Heather's crying. Paul kindly assures her that she did the right thing. Heather stands up. She wants to know if Paul found any evidence against Victor in Mexico. He answers he didn't and then, he adds he found plenty against Adam. Heather isn't surprised. She confides in her father that the first thought that popped into her head when Adam proposed, was that a wife can't be compelled to testify against her husband. Adam convinced her that was absurd. Next time she'll trust her instincts.

At the courthouse, an handcuffed Adam runs into Heather. "How could you?" he says. She asks for having a moment alone with the prisoner. How could she? He used her, he lied to her, he deceived her. Adam questions her love for him and he accuses her of focusing on her career. She disagrees. She never lied to him. And she's not lying to him now, when she says she's going to send him to jail not because he broke her heart, but because he broke the law.

Adam's taken away. Paul, who witnessed unseen the end of Adam and Heather's confrontation, comes up to his daughter. He wants her to know how proud of her he is, and how he admires her strength and her courage. Paul and Heather briefly smile to each other. Then, Paul sits down next to his daughter and whispers he's here for her. Whatever she needs.
